Welcome to the DUNE 150 Home Page Stock DUNE 150 MODS! Mods, continued Last of the mods to the mighty 150! Transmission Pics of MY Dune!!! The PICS of some TRIPS!!! My Photos What's Next? NEBA

These are my mods and others you can do!

The first thing anybody does when they get a toy is PLAY WITH IT!!!  Like many before me, I like to tinker, and I love to go faster!!!  Here is how I am going faster with the DUNE!!!

Starting with Air, Fuel, and Exhaust

The most restrictive equipment on any vehicle will always be the intake (air in), exhaust (air out), and fuel (food for motor).....  Being that I teach auto, I have access to a lot of equipment which makes my job that much easier!  The first modification I performed, was cutting the stock exhaust wide open, and physically removing the internal baffles of the muffler with an Oxy Acetylene torch, and then MIG welded the hollow muffler back together...  This lets more air out giving me a virtually open exhaust!!!!!

The following is a link to one of the most informative websites in regards to mini-buggies ...  www.buggynews.com  AND.....  This is  a link to the exhaust modification I performed, as well as a couple others--  http://www.buggynews.com/topic8144.html

Continuing with the modifications....   As I get more exhaust out,  I need more air and fuel in!  That is physics!

Here is a little PLUG!!!!  For my parts, YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT  www.kidnmekarts.com    CHECK THEM OUT!!!!!!!!!  ALL YOUR PERFORMANCE PARTS ARE HERE......  CHEAP!!!!!!!!

Now, for the Air in- or "INTAKE"  The stock box is restrictive...  Huge performance gains come from just intake modifications.  My modification was simple.  1. Remove stock airbox- 2. Replace with K&N ATV filter from our performance dealer!  I used a Fernco coupling from the local hardware store that fit the carburator (1-1/2" fit mine), and a 6" long piece of matching PVC pipe...  3. Attach pipe to coupling  4. Attach coupling to carb, and finally, 5. Attach filter to pipe! Now I have a cold air kit with high performance filter, and free flowing exhaust...  The last thing to balance it all is more fuel!

After you clear up the breathing, you have to add more fuel.  You cant make the machine work harder without feeding it!!!  The carburator has a MAIN JET located in the fuel bowl at the bottom of the carb...  This can easily be swapped out by loosening the clamps on both sides of the carb, and twisting the carb counter-clockwise, so that the fuel bowl is facing outward...  ! ! ! ! ! IMPORTANT ! ! ! ! !  There is still fuel in the carb and it will spill...  You can drain it before you do this, but you always need to clean it afterwards!!!  NEVER leave spilled fuel on top of a motor... N E V E R!!!

After you get the fuel bowl off (removing all 4 screws), the largest brass screw, sticking the farthest down at the bottom of the carb is the MAIN JET.  You simply unscrew it and replace it with your new one!!!  I started with the 128 Jet and have run it pretty well so far...  : : : : IMPORTHANT TUNING INFORMATON : : : : : ----> Keep checking the sparkplug to make sure that the motor is not running too rich (black), or too lean (white)...  If either condition exsists, change the MAIN JET to alter the amount of fuel.  If the plug is black, too much fuel...  You'd need a smaller jet...  If the plug is white, then there is not enough fuel...  you'd need a bigger jet!  At $4.00 a peice, you can afford to buy a few on both sides to experiment and be happy with!!  (I bought the 128, 130 and the 132.  I am happy so far! )

As a side note, MOST buggies come stock with a 114 Main Jet.  Some have had smaller as 112 or higher as 115, but most commonly found in our mini buggies are 114 Main jets.  If you do not perform all of the modifications above, your jetting would be dramatically different.

click to see the larger image---this is the UNI- I used the original air inlet hose for the intake, however, you need to insert a sleeve into the hose to keep it rigid when you clamp the fileter on...1 1/2 inch exhaust pipe from autozone or even same diameter drain pipe from home depot will do the trick!

below is a pic of the jets.... those are two sizes extra that I purchased incase I needed to add or remove fuel to get the right mix!
